An interesting, but ultimately unsatisfactory telling of the Turing story with Benedict Cumberbatch once again cast as “an intelligent person”. Too Hollywood for me (yes, I know it’s a British film), but a bit dumbed down and a lost opportunity. 7/10

Good biopic. Idris Elba imbues Mandela with the muscular charisma he needs – especially for a generation who knew him only as an old man. 9/10
Spielberg’s Shakesperean drama is wordy and theatrical and has a towering central performance from Daniel Day-Lewis. I loved it, but suspect it’s one for the American history buffs and fans of exposistion. 9/10
Stunning performance from Di Caprio (oddly not even Oscar nominated) in insightful and surprisingly pacy biopic of the former director of the FBI directed by Clint Eastwood. 8/10

Not Alex Gibney’s finest work – but an entertaining docudrama about Hunter S. Thompson. 7/10
More serious than one might imagine from the posters. Brolin ensures Dubya is a three-dimensional character. Decent but a bit long, while Toby Jones as Karl Rove slightly steals the movie. 7/10
